Darby & Nicky’s Engagement Session at the National Arboretum Canberra

Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing Darby Medlyn and Nicky Davies’ engagement session at the National Arboretum Canberra, and it was such a fun afternoon from beginning to end.

The Arboretum is always an incredible location for engagement photos, with its sweeping views, open landscapes and beautiful light, but Darby and Nicky brought so much personality to the session. They were relaxed, playful and completely comfortable together, which meant there was plenty of laughter and those natural, unposed moments I love to photograph.

Darby proposed to Nicky in Huskisson on NSW’s Sapphire Coast overlooking the ocean. Of course Nicky said YES!

We even had a rainbow appear during the session, which felt like the perfect little bit of magic to finish the afternoon.

Engagement sessions are such a lovely opportunity to spend some time together before the wedding day. There’s no timeline to rush through and no pressure — just time to wander, talk, laugh and become comfortable in front of the camera. By the time the wedding arrives, it feels much more like catching up with people I already know rather than meeting for the first time.

 

Darby and Nicky are getting married next February, and after yesterday’s session I’m even more excited to photograph their wedding day. If their engagement session is anything to go by, it’s going to be an incredibly fun celebration.
